is one of the most popular items of piercing jewellery because the shape suits the needs of numerous piercings. The gently curved line follows the natural curves of the body, providing you with a comfortable piece of piercing jewellery.
Curved barbells are also occasionally known as a navel curve or banana barbell (naturally, we love this name!).
What are curved barbells for?
Curved barbells are designed for a range of ear piercings, surface piercings, genital piercings and eyebrow piercing. The only lip piercings curved barbells can be used for are the jestrum and vertical labret. The curve of this piercing jewellery is designed to fit comfortably in the body in areas where a straight barbell would sit too tightly under the skin. The curved barbell is perfect for eyebrow and surface piercings because the jewellery will be pierced just below the skin.
Can you put a curved barbell in a daith piercing?
You can put a curved barbell in a daith piercing. In fact, most daith piercings are performed using a curved barbell as this form of jewellery is easy to clean and is less likely to be knocked compared to a ring. Once your daith piercing has healed you can change your curved barbell to a daith ring, daith heart, or BCR. If you would rather keep a curved barbell in your daith piercing then there are plenty of colours and designs to choose from!
How long should a VCH barbell be?
A VCH piercing or Vertical Clitoral Hood piercing is usually performed using a curved barbell which sits vertically at the top of female genitals. The length of a VCH barbell will depend upon your anatomy. Before getting any type of genital piercing, you will usually have an appointment with your piercer to check the suitability of your anatomy and discuss your piercing jewellery options. . These are both popular ear piercings because they are thought to reduce migraines and anxiety. Although the evidence is currently only anecdotal, there are still plenty of people opting for these cartilage piercings.
Curved barbell earrings
can be worn in other ear piercings too and are one of the best types of jewellery for snug piercings.
Curved barbell UK
from Blue Banana is available in titanium which is a popular material for piercing jewellery due to the non-corrosive, durable, and hypoallergenic qualities. If you are looking for cheap and long-lasting curved barbells then surgical steel is a durable and non-corrosive metal at a lower price. We also offer clear curved barbell retainer jewellery which is perfect for hiding your piercing, wearing during sports, or wearing during medical procedures.
Curved barbells can come in handy for hiding certain piercings. Choose a short, snug curved barbell to help hide piercings such as septum and
curved barbell smiley piercing
or choose longer bars to show them off. Make sure the jewellery is not too snug or short as this can lead to problems with the curved barbell embedding in the skin. Healed septum piercings can be hidden with a clever little trick – flip your curved barbell up inside your nose and you can leave in your piercing jewellery while hiding your piercing! Smiley piercing visibility varies for each person, usually depending on the size of your lips.
Navel piercings can use a curved barbell but if you are looking for a decorative navel curve with jewels or a hanging feature then why not take a look at our collection of belly bars?
Curved barbell piercing
will give you a final result of two studs on the surface of the skin. These add on balls at the end of the bar come in a variety of colours and designs that can be easily added to the bar so if you don’t want to change the entire curved barbell why not check out our jewellery add ons for designs including dice, jewels, and UV balls. Simply make sure the size of the thread matches the size of your bar and you will have no problem in quickly switching up your jewellery.
Once your piercing is healed you can easily change your
curved barbell jewellery
by simply unscrewing the ball on the end of the bar and removing your jewellery, ready to replace with your new curved barbell.
Picking Out Curved Barbells
It is important to choose the right size and material for your piercing jewellery as your body may react differently to different materials. Getting the right size of curved barbell is important for the health of your piercing.
Size: Curved Barbells are measured by the length and gauge. The first number is the gauge (displayed in mm) and the second is the diameter e.g. 1.2 x 10mm. To measure the length of a curved barbell, measure from one end of the bar to the other in a straight line, without the add on balls.
Material: Choosing a high quality material such as titanium will provide you with a hypoallergenic material that is perfect for everyday use. Surgical steel is also a good choice for healed piercings as it is durable.
Inserting/Removing Curved Barbells
Before handling your piercing, always make sure to wash your hands with antibacterial soap.
Changing a curved barbell is a simple process that can be done at home but if you would like help, especially the first time, then it is best to visit a piercer.
It is important to be patient and not attempt to change your piercing jewellery before the wound is fully healed as this can cause complications. However, once it has healed you can start exploring your options.
To remove your curved barbell, simply unscrew the ball on the end of the bar. You will then be able to remove the bar from your piercing and replace it with a new one. Gently move the curved bar through your piercing until you reach the end of the bar. If you find it hard to remove the ball then jewellery pliers can help.
When inserting your new curved barbell make sure to push the bar gently through the piercing hole and keep going until it is in a suitable position. Always make sure to screw the ball tightly on the end.
Where can you use curved barbells?
Curved barbells are an incredibly versatile type of piercing jewellery that can be used in many different types of piercing. You can wear a curved barbell in:
