The daith piercing is placed on the inner ridge of the ear and can be worn with a range of daith jewellery styles including curved barbells, circular barbells, and BCRs. One of the most popular types of piercing jewellery for wearing in healed daith piercings is the daith heart. Find out more about the different types of daith piercing jewellery and other FAQs in the article below.

What do they pierce daith with?

The daith is commonly pierced with a curved barbell or BCR. A curved barbell is often the preferred type of daith piercing jewelry for healing daith piercings as it is less likely to get knocked or caught. A needle will be used to pierce the daith then your jewellery of choice will be inserted. Your piercer will be able to advise which daith jewellery is best for being pierced with.

What is the best jewelry for a daith piercing?

The best jewlry for a daith piercing is a curved barbell. This is often the first piece of daith jewelry you will have when you get your daith pierced. Once it has healed you can wear a range of hoops and rings, in particular a BCR, as well as shaped seamless rings such as daith heart jewelry and stars.

Can I get my daith pierced with a heart?

Most piercers advise getting pierced with a curved barbell rather than a heart because it is less likely to get knocked or caught during healing. Depending on the shape of your ear, you may not be able to accommodate daith rings such as a heart so make sure to check with your piercer. If this is the case you may only be able to wear curved barbells.

How do you remove a heart daith piercing?

To remove a daith heart piercing hold on to the piercing jewellery and pull the outer edge of the heart towards you. The aim is to twist the jewellery open rather than pull it apart.  Once there is a big enough gap, you will be able to remove your daith piercing heart jewellery by gently working it through the piercing hole.

What gauge is a daith piercing?

A daith piercing is usually 16g which is 1.2mm in thickness. This is the standard gauge for most ear cartilage piercings. The daith piercing is usually pierced with a curved needle so you will need to choose 16 gauge curved piercing jewellery to wear in your daith.

What metal is used for daith piercings?

The metal that is used for daith piercings is most commonly titanium or surgical steel daith earrings. It is important to choose a high quality bio-compatible metal for your daith piercing jewellery in order to keep your piercing healthy. Titanium daith jewelry is a good choice of metal for wearing while you heal your new pierced daith. This is because it is hypoallergenic.

Can you change a daith piercing yourself?

You can change a daith piercing yourself to a variety of different jewellery types. A daith piercing heart earring, daith star, or seamless ring can be twisted apart to be removed and changed. A similar action is required for BCRs in order to release the ball. Some daith hoops click in place while barbells usually have a small ball on the end that can be unscrewed in order to change your daith piercing.

If you need help to change your daith piercing you can always return to store where one of our piercers can change your jewellery for you.

How to change a daith piercing earring?

To change a daith earring such as a daith clicker, there is a section of the ring that will open. Hold onto the back and front of the ring and gently pull until the daith earring segment opens. You will then be able to take out your daith earrings and insert your new piercing jewellery. It can be difficult to locate the back of your piercing hole when you are inserting your new daith piercing earrings so use your fingers to guide you and help you feel where the hole is. The more often you change a daith piercing earring the easier you will find it to naturally locate your daith piercing hole.

Can you sleep on daith piercing?

It is best not to sleep on a daith piercing, especially while it is healing. Sleeping on your daith piercing will apply extra pressure to the wound which can cause it to take longer to heal. Lying on your daith piercing can also result in the piercing migrating or changing angle as it heals because the piercing jewellery may move while you lay on it.

Can you wear earbuds with daith piercing?

It is best not to wear earbuds with a daith piercing while it is healing. Once it has healed you may be able to comfortably wear earbuds depending on the jewellery you choose. If you would like to listen to music while your daith piercing is healing we would recommend wearing loose over the ear headphones or wearing one earphone in the non-pierced ear.

Can you put a septum clicker in a daith piercing?

It is not recommended to wear a septum clicker in a daith piercing. This is because the septum clicker has a straight bar whereas the daith is usually pierced with a curved needle. You can buy daith clickers if you would like to wear this style of piercing jewellery which are specially designed to be worn in a pierced daith.

Can you put a straight bar in a daith piercing?

You cannot put a straight bar in a daith piercing, unless you have been pierced with a straight needle. It is most likely that your daith has been pierced with a curved needle and will therefore require curved jewellery such as rings and curved barbells. Once your daith piercing has healed with a curved barbell you will always need to wear curved jewellery in your piercing.

Daith piercings are an incredibly popular type of ear piercing. This is because of the anecdotal evidence that suggests a pierced daith can help to relieve the symptoms of migraines. However, they also look super cute and can accommodate a range of piercing jewellery types and designs. If you are creating an ear piercing constellation a daith piercing can provide balance to the aesthetic when paired with piercings that are placed on the outer rim of the ear.
