Venom piercing is a double tongue piercing which gets its name because the piercing sits in the position on the tongue where fangs would inject venom if you bit down. It is sometimes called frog eye piercing because the two balls at the ends of the barbell look like frog eyes when you open your mouth. Want to know more about venom tongue piercing? We have gathered your FAQs to answer everything you have always wanted to know about this double tongue piercing.

How do you heal a venom piercing?

Venom piercings have a fast healing time but because they are in the mouth you will need to be careful to keep the piercing clean while it heals. It will take 4-8 weeks for your venom piercing to heal, during which time you should be cleaning your piercing twice a day by swilling a saltwater solution around your mouth. Most people like to do this after they eat too as it will help to remove any food debris from your new piercing. It is important to maintain good oral hygiene during the healing process so regularly use PH-neutral alcohol-free mouthwash to keep your mouth feeling fresh.

How old do you have to be to get a venom tongue piercing?

You have to be 16 years old to get a venom tongue piercing. The venom piercing is only available with ID and cannot be done with parental consent, like all oral piercings. Make sure to bring your ID with you so you can prove your age as you piercer will ask to see it if you look younger than the age limit. Valid forms of ID include an in-date Passport, Driving License, identification card with the Pass holographic logo.

How much do venom tongue piercings cost?

The cost of a venom piercing is £70 - £80. The price will depend on the piercing jewellery you choose. It is usually worth paying the extra cost for higher quality piercing jewellery as it will help your venom piercing to heal. Remember, piercing prices often reflect the experience needed by the piercer to perform a venom piercing. It is not worth the cost of your safety to go to someone who is not qualified or attempt to pierce yourself at home.

When can I change my venom tongue piercing?

It is important not to change your venom tongue piercing until it has fully healed. Wait at least 4-8 weeks before changing your venom piercing jewellery. Changing it before this time could slow down the healing process and will aggravate the piercing. While it is healing, it is important not to move your new piercing. Once it has healed, we often recommend waiting an extra month before changing your piercing jewellery to make sure it has fully healed. It is important to be patient with your new piercing – you will find it pays off in the long run.

Do they numb your tongue when you get it pierced?

Some piercers do numb your tongue when you get it pierced but most do not think it is necessary. Tongue piercings are very quick and most people report that they are not very painful. It may be better not to numb your tongue so that you are more aware of the piercing jewellery once your tongue has been pierced. This means you can take better care not to move it or catch it. Your piercer may use breathing or counting techniques to keep you calm during your piercing procedure which will help it to feel less painful.

What is the difference between venom piercings and snake eye piercings?

Venom piercing vs snake eyes? There is a difference between venom piercings and snake eye piercings. Venom piercings are placed further back on the tongue and are pierced from top to bottom whereas snake eye piercings are pierced horizontally through the tip of the tongue.

Why is snake eye piercing dangerous?

Want to know why so many people think snake eye piercing is dangerous? The reason we are frequently asked why are horizontal tongue piercings dangerous is that many do consider them to be too risky due to being so close to the surface of the skin. In fact, some piercers refuse to do snake eye piercings. The location at the tip of the tongue means that they can reject and cause damage to the tongue. The position means they are easily knocked and caught. The ends of the piercing bar may also catch or rub against your teeth which in time will wear away enamel or could lead to you chipping a tooth.

Do surface tongue piercings reject?

Surface piercings anywhere on the body are prone to rejection. There is a higher risk of a surface tongue piercing rejecting compared to other types of tongue piercing. The closer a piercing is to the surface of your skin the easier it is for your body to push out the foreign object (in this case, your piercing jewellery). It is so common for surface tongue piercings to be rejected that most piercers will recommend you having the frog eyes piercing rather than the snake eyes piercing because it is further back on the tongue and is a vertical piercing rather than horizontal surface piercing.

If you want to get a double tongue piercing that looks like a horizontal tongue piercing then we recommend considering venom bites. This piercing is safer because it goes from the top to bottom of the tongue with two separate pieces of jewellery. The venom bites piercing is also further back in the mouth which means it is less likely to catch on your teeth or gums which can cause lasting damage.
