Anti Tragus Piercing Lowdown

The anti tragus piercing is still quite unusual compared with the standard tragus piercing which makes it a great choice for anyone wanting to create a unique style.

This style of piercing is placed in the raised fold of cartilage on the outside of the ear near to the tragus.

Procedure

Not everyone can rock this awesome piercing because there needs to be quite a large amount of cartilage present to achieve a successful piercing.  If you have any other ear piercings in the same vicinity or you have stretched lobes, you will need to speak to your piercer about whether the anti tragus is suitable for you.

Your piercer will most likely mark the spot with a pen before using a sterilised needle to create the hole.

Pain

This anti tragus piercing is similar to all cartilage piercings in that the pain levels could be higher than piercings that don't go through the cartilage. However, pain is entirely subjective and depends on the person's individual pain threshold.

Healing

It normally takes around 8-18 weeks for an anti tragus piercing to heal, providing you follow the appropriate aftercare instructions:
  • Wash your hands before you clean the piercing
  • Clean it twice a day with a saline solution
  • Avoid wearing headphones or earphones because they could irritate the piercing
  • Change your pillow cases and bed sheets regularly
  • Wherever possible, avoid sleeping on the piercing
Some swelling and bleeding is completely normal during the first few days but if you experience abnormal levels of pain and discomfort, you should seek medical attention immediately.

Jewellery

There are many types of jewellery that you can wear with this body modification including a curved barbell, ball closure ring or a circular barbell.

In some cases the anti tragus can be very small, so it recommended that micro jewellery, of a smaller gauge, is used to avoid the piercing taking a long time to heal.
