Boardmasters Festival 2016 Guide

Watergate Bay & Fistral Beach, Cornwall
10th August 2016
Festival Information
Welcome to our guide to the Boardmasters Festival 2016, both one of the biggest professional surfing competitions in Europe and the largest music festival in the South West!

What is The Boardmasters Festival?

The Boardmasters festival is one of the biggest festivals in the UK, and first began in 1981. Based in Cornwall on Fistral Beach, Newquay and Watergate Bay, the festival is part professional surfing and extreme sports competition and part music festival. Over the past decade the festival has rapidly grown from humble roots to become the biggest event in Cornwall every summer!

A wide variety of popular artists have played on both the sands of Fistral Beach and Trebelsue Farm at Watergate Bay over the years, including Snoop Dogg, Gallows, Ed Sheeran, Funeral For A Friend, We Are The Ocean and many more. There's a little something for everyone in the line up each year, with alternative, indie, hip-hop, dance, reggae and folk artists taking to the stage.

Although music is now a large part of the festival, it's really all about the surfing at Boardmasters! Each and every year hundreds of surfers come to the world famous Fistral Beach to compete and put on a show for surfing fanatics. There's also plenty of other extreme sports participating in the festivities, including professional skateboarding and BMX.

It should also be mentioned that the location itself is one of the best in the UK too, as you get to enjoy two of the best beaches in Cornwall and sample plenty of restaurants, beach bars and enjoy sun, sea and surf for the entire weekend!
