Our Top Ten Alternative Songs Of 2017… So Far!

We’re only halfway through 2017, but dang has there been some great alternative songs so far! If you feel like you’ve been a bit out of the loop when it comes to this year’s music, don’t worry – Blue Banana’s got your back! Below we’ve compiled our favourite alternative songs of the year so far to help you catch up on some of the awesome music you might have missed! So stick in your earbuds, lean back and enjoy some of the awesome tunes that this year has offered up so far!

1. ‘Run’ by Foo Fighters

Let’s start off with a song that we’re sure will be on everyone’s 2017 favourites list. Following their 2013 album Sonic Highways, Foo Fighters are finally back with a track that has real kick to it! ‘Run’ sees the band at the loudest they’ve been in a while, with Dave Grohl pretty much screaming out its lyrics! Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, it also has a totally awesome music video as well…

2. ‘Hard Times’ by Paramore

The lead single for Paramore’s latest album is pure pop punk perfect (trying saying that three times really fast!), being perhaps the catchiest song we’ve heard so far this year… But despite the band embracing a new poppy dance sound, the track definitely sticks to the Paramore’s emo roots with its lyrics. Make sure you check this one out – it’s easily one of our favourite alternative songs of the year so far!

3. ‘Crooked Teeth’ by Papa Roach

We’ve still got Papa Roach’s new album Crooked Teeth on repeat here at the Blue Banana office, and we have to say our favourite song from the album is the title one! This heavy track hits you like a smack in the face – and we love absolutely every minute of it. If you haven’t gotten round to listening to the album yet, what are you waiting for?

4. ‘Dig Down’ by Muse

Muse surprised us a few weeks ago when they dropped a new song out of the blue… But luckily the track is an absolute banger! We don’t know yet whether ‘Dig Down’ is part of a new album or not, but we do know that we can’t get enough of it. Just like all their great songs, you’re guaranteed to be singing along on your first listen!

5. ‘What’s Wrong’ by Pvris

Speaking of bands we love making surprise comebacks… PVRIS’s new single, ‘What’s Wrong’, is a track that really delivers – making us unbelievably pumped for the band’s upcoming album All We Know Of Heaven, All We Need Of Hell. If you haven’t stumbled across the band yet, we definitely recommend you wrap your ears around this new track. Hopefully the rest of the album’s songs will be just as good!

6. ‘Can’t Do’ by Everything Everything

The lead single from Everything Everything’s new album is another instant classic, with its booming sing-a-long chorus and general awesomeness… If you haven’t listened to their stuff before, this new track is guaranteed to convert you! They’ve got too many awesome alternative songs!

7. ‘Lights Out’ by Royal Blood

We loved Royal Blood’s debut album to death, and so we’re really happy to see they’ve got another one on the way (coming out at the end of this week, no less!) ‘Lights Out’ is the band doing what they do best, delivering heavy bass-lines, fantastic drumming and lyrics that you just want to scream along to. We really can’t wait to listen to the full album…

8. ‘Eternally Yours’ by Motionless In White

Motionless In White’s Graveyard Shift is easily one of our favourite albums of the year so far, featuring so many great songs, and the single ‘Eternally Yours’ might just be our favourite track from it. This epic closing track delivers the heavy sound we’ve come to expect from our favourite nu metal band, really summing up everything we love about their new album!

9. ‘Rattlesnake’ by King Gizzard

One of our new band discoveries this year, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard not only have one of the downright strangest band names we’ve heard in a long time, but they also know how to put out great music! Their recent single ‘Rattlesnake’ is a rocking psychedelic track about, uh, a rattlesnake and is as catchy as it is bizzare!

10. ‘Sultan’s Curse’ by Mastodon

Last but not least, this track from Mastodon’s latest album really has us enamoured! One of our favourite heavy metal bands around, we think you’ll agree that they never disappoint. ‘Sultan’s Curse’, really, is just the band doing what they do best!
