If you spend a lot of time on the internet then you're sure to have heard the hype about the latest season of Stranger Things. Season 4 volume 2 was finally aired on Friday 1st July and the excitement has only increased. With the addition of new characters such as Chrissy, Eddie and Jason, this season has stepped up a gear to become the darkest and spookiest one so far.

Now, we can’t talk about Stranger Things season 4 without discussing THAT epic scene. Yes, the scene where Eddie Munson takes on the Upside Down with his guitar skills and gives the best metal concert ever. Never did we think we would be blessed with a rendition of Master of Puppets by Metallica from Eddie Munson in an alternate reality!

Why is Master of Puppets Trending?

Master of Puppets may not be Metallica's most popular song to date but we're sure that will all change. Stranger Things has given this song a new lease of life and has reached a new generation of potential metal heads by using it in the series. It doesn’t get more metal than the awesome Eddie Munson shredding to Master of Puppets by Metallica in the Upside Down whilst taking on a swarm of Demo-Bats flying towards him!

Watched by millions, Stranger Things have catapulted this song back to fame and also into the charts. Master of Puppets is currently #26 on Spotify’s Top 50 Global Chart, #12 on the US Chart and reached the top spot on iTunes Rock Chart.

A Look at Master of Puppets

Metallica first released Master of Puppets in 1986 and was the only single to be released from the Master of Puppets album. Totalling 8 minutes and 36 seconds of thrash metal guitars and fast lyrics, Master of Puppets was a sure choice for the Stranger Things Eddie scene.

The heavy lyrics of the Master of Puppets song make a strong parallel to the gangs’ misfortune in the Upside Down. Metallica’s lyrics in this song have historically been about battling addiction and drugs; singer James Hetfield describes the song as a look at how drugs control you rather than you controlling them. With lyrics such as “master of puppets, I'm pulling your strings / Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams” it's easy to find parallels with Stranger Things’ villain, Vecna. In season 4 we discover the ruler of the dark dimension as well as his origins and how he controls his victims. Vecna has the ability to make his victims see things that are not there and induce fear; he can pull the strings of his victims and twist their minds. It’s easy to see why the Duffer brothers (creators of the show) chose this song for Eddie to play.

Avid guitar player Joseph Quinn, who plays Eddie Munson, even learnt how to play the song including the guitar solos when he found out about the scene!

How To Get Master of Puppets to Number 1

We would love to see Master of Puppets at number 1 in the charts and beat the iconic Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush that is also used in the series. Continue to stream Master of Puppets on Spotify, YouTube and iTunes to help push the song to #1!
