, Marina Diamandis (Marina & The Diamonds)
, Dascha Polanco (OITNB)
& Kelly Osbourne! With so many celebrities jumping on board this hair trend it's not hard to see why so many of us are just 'dyeing' to give it a go...
There are so many hair dye colours out there that it can be hard to know what the best silver hair dye is to use. It really depends on what kind of silver shade your looking for but at Blue Banana we offer a variety of semi-permanent colours, lots of which are PPD free dyes.
Here are a few of our favourite silver hair dyes and coloured styling gels:
So once you've decided what silver grey hair dye you want to use, here is how to achieve your granny hair:
Step One: Prepare Your Hair!
-Grow out any previous colour as much as you can, which might mean living with some nasty regrowth for a while but for bleach to lift your hair evenly, it should ideally be the same colour all over.
-The Dirtier The Better! When dying your hair, it's always a good idea to leave a couple of days without washing, this is because the natural oils hair creates can help to absorb the dye.
Apply the Vaseline around your hair-line, neck and ears to stop the dye from running all over your skin.
-Place some newspaper on the floor and a towel around your shoulders, in case of spillages or splashes!
-Put on your gloves and keep them on throughout the rest of the steps!
Step Two: Bleach those Bangs!
-Mix up your bleach, following the instructions included in your bleach lightening kit
Then, using the brush, paste the bleach on to your hair, starting at the roots and working your way down to ensure all the hair is covered. You may need more than one packet depending on how long and thick your locks are.
-Leave on the hair for anywhere between 30-60 minutes depending on how dark your hair was originally. You should be able to see your hair lightening and this will help you to judge when is is the best time to wash off. (You're looking for a light canary yellow colour!)
-Wash and dry hair ready for the next step
Step Three: Toner Time!
-Apply your purple toner and consult the instructions for how long to leave before washing off (This will normally be between 30 and 60 minutes)
-Wash your hair off and dry again, by now you should have a fairly neutral platinum or white blonde, this is the perfect base for applying your silver dye! (Excited yet?!)
Step Four: It's Finally Time To Shine!
Now it's finally time to get that silver shimmer on your hair!
-Once again, apply some Vaseline around your hair-line, ears and neck to protect your skin from smudges
-Part your hair into sections as you did before to ensure everywhere will be covered
-Apply the hair dye using the brush, starting from the roots and working down to the tips (Consult the instructions for development time which is usually around 30 minutes)
-Wash and dry your new silver hair!
