No matter what sort of music you’re into, there’s sure to be an act for your taste.
So get reading and get pumped for Boardmasters 2017!
Two Door Cinema Club
Seeing as though they’re the Friday night headliner, we thought these guys would be a good place to start our list… Having released their excellent third album Gameshow last year, Two Door Cinema Club are at the top of their game at the moment! With a huge back catalogue of indie pop classics, such as ‘What You Know’ and ‘Sun’, it’d be a crime to miss out on these guys!
Lower Than Atlantis
We cannot wait to see these guys live! Lower Than Atlantis are easily one of our favourite alternative metal bands currently around, with five fantastic albums under their belts including this year’s Safe in Sound. If you haven’t come across these guys before, we definitely recommend giving their latest effort a go!
If you consider yourself a big hip hop fan, we’re sure you’re already planning to catch Stormzy at Boardmasters! As one of the fastest rising names in hip hop at the moment – having released the incredible ‘Shut Up’ in 2015 – Stormzy’s set is sure to be fantastic. Whether you’re a hip hop fan or not, this is one act not to miss!
Sunday night headliners Alt-J are certainly one of the weirder bands playing at the festival, but that’s definitely not a bad thing! They’ve released songs about everything from pool parties to triangles and the film Alien… So yeah – if you’re for something a little different at Boardmasters, these guys are a safe bet!
The Flaming Lips
The one band performing at the festival that might be even weirder than Alt-J, The Flaming Lips’ performance is guaranteed to be a Boardmasters highlight! Now three decades deep into their career, the band is well-known for their eccentric and bizarre live shows, featuring confetti, unicorns and frontman Wayne Coyne crowd-surfing in a giant inflatable ball… Need we say more?
Another indie rock favourite performing at the festival, The Vaccine always know how to put on an incredible show! The band are now gearing up to release their fourth album, so expect to see a handful of new songs among classics such as ‘Wreckin’ Bar’ and ‘If You Wanna’. We can’t think of a better way to spend your Saturday night at the festival.
If you take your punk music seriously, then Slaves are obviously gonna be a must-see. Their brand of biting political punk rock led to their debut album being nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2015, with it featuring fantastic songs such as ‘Cheer Up London’ and ‘Sockets’. Basically, don’t miss out on seeing these guys live!
One of the lesser-known bands performing at Boardmasters this year, we think Dutch Uncles are a definite must-see for Saturday night. The band have five awesome indie rock albums under their belt, including this year’s Big Balloon, and we think it’d be a crime to miss out on what’s guaranteed to be a fantastic performance!
The Idris Elba? In addition to being the guy from Thor and The Wire (among many films and TV shows), he’s also an incredible musician and DJ. If you haven’t listened to his stuff before, we definitely recommend checking out his album Murdah Loves John.
Our final Boardmasters recommendation, Jagwar Ma are an awesome Australian psychedelic rock band that demands a place on your festival playlist! If you’re into indie bands like Glass Animals and Tame Impala then you’re sure to find something to love about them.
So there you have it, our top recommendations for Boardmasters 2017!
