What is a Conch Piercing?

Location: Ear, Conch
Jewellery: Barbells, Rings, Studs

A conch piercing is the perforation of the concha, the deep bowl-shaped shell in the centre of the ear. This allows the piercee to insert a piece of jewellery of their choice in to the concha, the most popular of which tend to be barbells. Often pierced using a hollow 14g needle, it can be sore and painful due to the sensitivity of the ear in the central area. Itís a very popular piercing which can house many different types of jewellery.

Start with a barbell, because a ring will increase the risk of trauma to the wound. If you use a ring make sure it doesnít get pulled.
Conch Piercing Process
Usually performed with a receiving tube or using a freehand method, although as always this depends on your anatomy and piercer.
Conch Piercing Aftercare
Healing time is around 3 to 9 months, commonly over 6 months. Initial jewellery size of barbells can be as short as 5/16 inch.
