If you’re into this extremely popular water sport and love a wide range of music artists, then Wakestock festival is definitely the festival for you.

We may have sold it to you, or you may still be on the fence. Either way we’re sure a little bit of background information will help you decide whether Wakestock festival is for you or not. So below we’ve enclosed a little bit of summarised history from previous Wakestock events. Take a look at the sorts of performers that have graced the stages and get a real feel for this summer festival.

The festival began back in 2000. Back then it was a simple wakeboard contest followed by a small party in the car park with just 800 people. Ten years later it is considered the biggest wakeboard competition in Europe and has a beautiful track record of performers.

In 2008 the Wakestock festival saw growing popularity and publicity and was proud to present a top quality collection of artists and acts. Some examples of these were; Friendly Fires, Sam Sparro, Pendulum, Hadouken, Groove Armada, You Me At Six, Mystery Jets, The Blackout, Eliot Minor, Calvin Harris, Funeral For A Friend, Mark Ronson, One Night Only, The Hoosiers and The Futureheads. The main headliners of the festival were Duffy and The Streets.

In 2009 it continued to excel and be a favourite festival for all extreme sports lovers to attend. Some of the acts to grace the stage this year were; Moby, Calvin Harris, Noisettes, N.E.R.D, Fightstar, The Pigeon Detectives, Chase & Status, Tinchy Strider, Zane Lowe, Dizzee Rascal, Kid British, Marina and the Diamonds, Just Jack and The Zutons. This alone is a clear indication of the diversity that the Wakestock festival is proud to provide.

Finally, in 2010 the Wakestock festival greeted tons of new artists and fresh faced festival goers. As usual the festival was a huge success and got great reviews from across the board! A large part of this was the spectacular performances from some of the best acts in current music. Wakestock was lucky enough to see the likes of; Roll Deep, Wiley, N-Dubz, Fedde Le Grand, Eric Prydz, Tinie Tempah, Huw Stephens, Pete Tong and Robyn, Sub Focus, Plan B, Feeder, Maximo Park and The Ting Tings.

At the 2011 event, Wakestock festival saw a rise in their publicity and with amazing acts from years before it was no wonder. In last years line up they featured some of the best from the industry including Ellie Goulding, The Wobats, Biffy Clyro, Chase and Status, Kelis, Example, Dj Fresh, Wretch 22, Ed Sheeran, Kids In Glass Houses and much more. Not only was their brilliant music at this festival but also amazing features that the crowd loved.

Famous for its incredible wakeboarding action and competitions, this festival combines extreme sports and awesome music into one amazing weekend. Head on down to the beaches for the sporting action, where you’ll be able to see a variety of competitions and events.

From the beautiful main beach at Abersoch, to the wonderful Pwllheli Marina, these sites are fantastic in both their appearance and what they have to offer. To help make things easier for you and allow you to plan your weekend, we’ve enclosed as much information as possible on what will be going on in the Wakestock line up for the 2014 festival.

Wakestock Line Up: Shows & Competitions

  • Wakeboard Practice Sessions: These take place at Pwllheli Marina where there are rails and riders are towed by a Malibu Wakesetter. On the course it is possible for the riders to do over ten tricks and hit every rail, depending on how good they are. This practice session gives everyone a chance to get to know the competition grounds and get used to the area before the big competition begins.

  • Pro Qualifying Competition: This also occurs at the Pwllheli Marina and in the build up to the final to demonstrate who has the best skills. This allows men and women to compete and show off their skills, as well as building everyone up for the following days’ events.

  • Pro Finals: The most talked about and biggest event of the entire weekend is the pro wakeboard competition. With a potential prize of £1500 and the title of Wakestock Champion, last year saw a massive increase in contenders. To see some of the hottest and coolest moves in wakeboarding, this is the place to be.

  • Mystic Big Air Competition: This takes place on another one of the festival sites, Abersoch. Down on the main beach this event sees some of the most amazing things in wakeboarding. The idea of this competition is that two Yamaha WaveRunners tow the riders and they use a floating kicker to perform whichever trick they choose. The contestant who gets the highest air is then crowned the winner and receives a £500.00 reward.

  • Rococo Pool Gap: At the Penrhos festival site there is a specific pool gap with 200,000 gallons of water and three rails. Free ride sessions will be available on the Pool Gap where you can come along and have a go. At this facility there will be Wakestaking Jams which happen every evening and allow contenders to earn some cash. The person who performs the best trick in each session gets themoney! This area of the festival welcomes all riders, male or female and there is a specific Girl Jams event at the Pool Gap tool.

  • Wakestake Jams: occur over the weekend at the following times; Friday – 5pm until 6pm, Saturday – 8pm until 9pm and Sunday – 4pm until 5pm.
For a weekend full of sporting action and music, the Wakestock line up for 2014 really does have everything you’ll need.
