Men's Hip Hop Clothing

The range of men's hip hop clothing on the market has been heavily influenced by many things including music and of course the change in urban clothing over the years. Hip hop clothing is very unique and distinctive and originates from the African American youth scene. Not only is the dance clothing influenced by music, but it has also been changed over the years due to the cities and countries this style of dance is popular in. Each city has contributed to the way that hip hop dancers dress to this day, and the range of clothing is forever changing. During the early 1980s, many sports brands influenced the way men's hip hop clothing was worn, however in 2012 many things have changed, from brands to the style of clothing that is worn.

It was not only men's hip hop clothing that changed the style of dancing, but many other things contributed to it. To be a hip hop dancer you have to look the part, and everything from accessories to haircuts matters. Being unique is one of the main aspects when you are a dancer, and the range of hip hop clothing on the market allows you to have your own personal style. Many dancers were seen wearing personalised belts, big gold jewellery and even bucket hats. Urban clothing is available almost anywhere you go, and to look great it is important you wear the right things. During the 1990s people took inspiration from the way gangsters dressed in the 1930s and 1940s and incorporated these styles into their fashion making the statement of ‘Old School Hip Hop’. It was towards the end of the 1990s that R&B music became known, and the fashion changed significantly. Some of the changes of men's hip hop clothing over the years include:
  • Baggy Clothing – This style of clothing became popular in the mid 1990s. Baggy clothing was seen as a symbol of toughness as the clothing was seen as hand me downs from older and tougher siblings.
  • Bling – From the mid to late 1990s it was very important on the hip hop scene to wear bling. Many rappers and dancers were seen wearing big gold chains, Rolex watches and grills.
  • Personalised Clothing & Accessories – Many dancers were seen wearing personalised belts, bucket hats and grills towards the end of the 1980s and this was seen as one of the biggest fashions since hip hop clothing began.
The collection of men's hip hop clothing is still expanding, so whenever you are dancing you are sure to find the hottest clothing on the dance scene. Complete with everything from popular throw back jackets, to unique urban clothing, our range here at Blue Banana cannot be beaten.
