Disco Leggings & Hot Pants

The era of disco leggings is long gone, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t still indulge in our disco hot pants and gold leggings. A time where fashion was allowed to be an expression of your unique taste was when no one cared if you strutted down the street in a pair of neon tights and a fluorescent dress. The popularity of leggings today is incredible, however the colours and patterns that are sold aren’t as dramatic as when they were first seen on the catwalks. The 70s was when true leggings were around and people wore whatever they wanted and never cared about co-ordinating colours. This time was when partying and dancing was eccentric and flamboyant, so people had to wear comfy and stylish clothes like disco leggings and other items.

Many disco leggings consisted of bright colours and outrageous patterns, which was why people loved them so much. Some of these unique designs are coming back into fashion with styles such as metallic leggings and modernised disco hot pants. Cleverly, big names have taken old trends such as these funky leggings and put a unique twist on them, which is becoming increasingly popular but this isn’t the same as those eccentric styles in the 70s.  In the early 80’s when ‘Fame’ was released, disco leggings were even more popular and were a perfect way of working out in style. Many different types of leggings that were and are now available include:
  • Fluorescent: The brightest colour was the best in the 70s, which is why it was such a popular trend and some of these vibrant colours are even being fashioned to day.
  • Stripy: The stripy design is known to have a slimming effect, but that wasn’t why they were worn in the disco era. The stripy style back then was perfect for bringing a whole new edge to anyone’s look.
  • Spotty: The spotty effect was another way to get your style noticed and was really effective at making people stand out.
  • Metallic: This image is one that will always diversify someone’s look and is brilliant at doing it. Very popular in the 70s, the metallic style is as popular as ever today.
  • Matte: Even though this texture is meant to be more of a dull approach it worked wonders for the ladies in the disco era and if matched with the right styles would certainly get them noticed.
If you look back over fashion history, disco leggings will certainly be there along with disco hot pants and all in one jumpsuits. Many of these styles are still loved by women and are used to define people’s characteristics and tastes perfectly. Even though our styles aren’t quite as flamboyant as the 70s they are still a great tribute to the awesome fashion we did have. A style from the disco era that has firmly kept its place in the fashion industry is these leggings for sure.  A trend that will never go out of fashion, the disco leggings are a fashion statement that we won’t be able to forget.
