A HIM T-Shirt Gives You That Touch of Finland Rock

As probably one of the lesser well known rock bands in the UK, anyone wearing a HIM T-Shirt is likely to get all sorts of attention from music fans and people who are simply wondering what you are wearing.

Starting out in 1991, the band which have inspired the HIM T-Shirt range were formed in Finland with the name of His Infernal Majesty, under which they released two demo tapes and an EP with their original members.

The rise of the band and subsequently the HIM T-Shirt range came in 1997, when they released the first of their full length studio albums entitled Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666. Despite the name, lead singer Ville Valo has been quoted saying the album was not intended to have any reference to Satan-worship.

Finland Rockers Defining A New Genre

Those who often sport a HIM T-Shirt will be familiar with the term ‘love metal’, which was coined by Valo after the band were repeatedly asked which genre of rock they saw themselves in. While he also said that the band was started as a rough tribute to Black Sabbath, critics have labelled them as performing in a wide variety of genres, including dark rock, gothic rock and melodic metal.

The HIM T-Shirt range often includes the heartagram graphic, which was created by Valo and used on several album covers. It has been described as a symbol of the band and their beliefs, and a symbol for the HIM genre of love metal. As well as being present on HIM tees, many fans of the band have the symbol as a tattoo to show their love for the group and their music.
