To get into fancy dress you don’t need a reason, it could be someone’s birthday, Christmas, Halloween or just a party and we would all want to get into our funny costumes for the event. There are so many occasions where cheap fancy dress is perfect, whether it’s a holiday where you are meant to dress up or just your friend’s party. Costumes are known to of originated from 18th century masked balls and have been said to be a Victorian conception. Over the years the thoughts on fancy dress have changed, which has led to the 20th century version of this kind of party. Nowadays fancy dress parties consist of drinks, food and a room full of strangely dressed people when they original featured instrumental bands, ball gowns and elegant masks. The most popular holiday for fancy dress themes and ideas is definitely Halloween as this is when you have scary and funny fancy dress ideas. This holiday has become an excuse for everyone to dress up in funky outfits and go partying or trick or treating. Christmas is another great time to dress up as you can be Santa, and elf or even Mrs Claus. The idea of dressing up is to allow you to be someone completely different, which is definitely why many people love doing it. It is always fun to do and definitely makes a party. The 1940s was when fancy dress parties became more popular, but their devil outfits weren’t as believable as the ones available today. When it hit 1970 dressing up for parties become much bigger and people were able to find fancy dress outfits in many stores.

Even though wearing fancy dress is what you should do for specific holidays many people throw costume parties just so everyone can dress up in funky clothes. Women’s fancy dress today definitely differs from the 18th century designs as they have become a lot more revealing. Back in the 1700’s these masked balls were mostly about mysterious meetings but now the fancy dress parties are more about having fun.
